Prehospital Trauma Life Support
The PHTLS (Prehospital Trauma Life Support) Course, now in its 9th edition, is recognised worldwide as the premier continuing education programme for prehospital emergency trauma care. The mission of the PHTLS is to promote excellence in the management of trauma patients by all providers involved in the delivery of prehospital care. The PHTLS is developed by NAEMT in cooperation with the American College of Surgeons Committee on Trauma, which provides medical direction and content oversight.
PHTLS courses improve the quality of trauma care and decrease mortality. The programme is based on a philosophy that emphasises the treatment of the multisystem trauma patient as a unique entity with specific needs. PHTLS promotes critical thinking as the basis for providing quality care. The course uses the internationally recognised PHTLS textbook.
The PHTLS is the world's highest standard in prehospital trauma education. The PHTLS is appropriate for Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), paramedics, nurses, physician assistants, physicians and other pre-hospital providers.
